Along with Ashley Cole they were the only ones in it who were truly world class.

Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Owen, had their moments.

Absolute wum, NQAT.

He's been worth every penny - contractual and fee-wise. A great footballer as well as a top class defender. Shameful the grief he's getting.

Has been a top player for us over the years tbf.

Early years he would £#%&! up now and again, some times because of the shit he had to play with and other times because he'd try and play himself out of trouble or have a brain fart.

But one of the best IMO.

If I understand this debate correct one side has named anout 3 mistakes Rio made between 2001 and 2006 and that means he weren't all that for those years?

Maybe i'm remembering shit wrong but to me Rio has been consistently the best defender at the club for a decade, has been world class for best part of that.

The one against Blackburn was shocking, let the ball bounce off his head.

Rio is at the age where Utd had to leave him go ,for the good of the team , because he is on a big wage and far less useful these days . Rio has been a good servant to this club over the last 10yrs and for some Utd fans to slag him off is shocking ,i have always said that Rio could have been a real class player if he had pushed himself and came forward with the ball ,but he rarely did that ,much prefering to coast through games ,that said he is still up there amongst our best ever defenders ,and no true Utd fan can disagree with that .

he was past it the day bellamy made him look like a sunday league defender in the 4 3 derby win .... must be at least 4 years ago at least maybe longer ... loved him wanting a new contract during his 8mth ban .. and dining with another teams ceo during contract talks , and all the other things that cant be mentioned on an open forum .... but yes he was a great ..the shortsightedness of utd fans is unreal
