I like him. he's never going to fire up anybody's imagination but he's effective at hwat he does. Can play right back too. And even left back, as he did at the world cup. Bit exposed there tbf.

Yep, sounded him out in the Summer iirc. Experience at all levels, leader, good in the air, eye for a pass and chips in with goals here and there.

Been thinking about defence today. Real lack of options out there I think. We don't just need a good CB IMO, we need a leader an organiser. Seriously how many players fit that description that might be buyable? Howedes is an option but he doesn't exactly scream top quality (yet).

Garay - only just signed for Zenit
Godin - possibility but crazy prices suggested
Miranda - 30 and crazy prices reported
Bonucci - possibility but doesn't overly excite
Astori - only just signed for Roma

Obviously Hummels is a possibility but he can have his pick of whatever club he wants. Personally I would try for Subotic. Back from his injuries and looking good again despite Dortmunds indifferent form.
