As you say, no big game to enjoy, no memorable moments. Nothing. A big, fat f*** all.

Why is the egomaniac c*** so desperate for us to finish top 4 if that's what we're gonna serve up in the Champions League? Why even bother?

4 shots in 180 minutes of football against a very average team.
f***ing joke.

Still absolutely f***ing seething like you say
Exactly. Put all that work in during the Europa to serve up that. Should be ashamed of themselves.

...and then he opened his mouth after. He's very very close to having the fans turn on him for that.

True, but it seems to be a universal reaction, disgust at the approach. Can't blame them, Utd, Barca, Real, certain expectations come with being one the great clubs. Imagine watching Barca play Mou style football, like allowing a kid loose on the Mona Lisa with their crayons and sparkle dust.

I don't remember his 04-06 Chelsea team being this utterly dour tbh. They were noted for being ruthless, powerful and unbelievably hard to beat.

The biggest crime in all this is that nobody enjoys watching united any more. Win or lose.

Feels like he has doubled down on his negativity in reaction to the praise that Pep style football gets. Almost as if he is trying to prove that an entirely opposite way can work just as well. Would fit in with his chronic narcissism.

He was new in 2004-06, as a character and personality he was challenging and surprising. Super efficient teams tough, 2-0 up at HT then shut up shop, but they would attack games early.

We only beat his Chelsea head to head once wasn't it. Fletch, the week after the Middlesbrough shitshow and Keano kicking off, we were in full on meltdown and they were flying.

Was a horrible game but a good atmosphere iirc

They were, the gameplan was similar, they had some serious power that meant they were able to physically bully most teams. They were a percentage team, lots of set piece goals, they would play for free kicks and corners and aim for backpost in swingers (remind you of anything?) look to force a goal and then sit back and pick weaker opposition off, or physically bully teams until they were worn out and then attack them late on. Used to infuriate us all as they alway looked on the back foot but ground out the result. I hated watching them.

And Frank "The Deflection King" Lampard. So many cheap rebound goals.

Yep. Lampard and £#%&!ing Drogba or a set piece header from Terry

It only ever opened up and became more expansive against weaker sides once they’d bullied and bludgeoned themselves into a lead. Awful £#%&!ing efficiency football normally

If we had a bad performance under Fergie whatever he actually said you could tell he was absolutely £#%&!ing furious in the post match interviews, with Mourinho, it's all shrugs and sly digs but he never really looks that arsed no matter how abject it was, you never get the impression he's going to march into the dressing room and give them a royal kick up the arse.

His entire reign has been characterised by not looking that happy to be here or arsed how it's going, interspersed with instances of badge pointing if he thinks a performance reflects well on him.

Just did a search and found an article I posted over 11 years ago. Now that makes you feel old

They were a horrible side really. But the difference was you were watching some great players at the top of their game, which made it easier to grudgingly respect. The aesthetic quality was never great, and the United side that was growing at the time was an antidote.

Not quite.

He deserved a humiliating thrashing from a gang of feral children as a fitting denouement.
