the blip United are on at the moment is very normal for a team missing its top two strikers and lacking the rest of last season's spine.

United's position is almost entirely attributable to the poor start they made. the extended runs of 12 undefeated and 2 defeats in 20 would sit well in any season, and the team were on a very promising run back into contention before that spurs game. our star striker hasn't kicked a ball since the start of december. it's no coincidence either that the team dropped 10pts out of 12 in the 1st 4 games after Carrick's injury in the win over Arsenal.
Like who? De Gea, Evra, Evans, Vidic, Carrick have all generally been available over the last month during this blip, haven't they? Not sure what Rio's situation is, whether he's injured or just being left out, leading to all this MLS speculation.

We can highlight undefeated runs in all competitions, but we've only won half our league games and lost 7 by January. That's piss poor.

none of these provides any excuse for moyes.

maybe you could disentangle injuries, etc from moyes's performance. he's picked the wrong team for every game and the football has been shit. how does van persie's injury explain smalling at right back? so we won a few games in a row against shit teams....

footballers are just like everyone else. some will join if we double or triple their wages, some will join cos of the brand/history or the chance to play with rvp, rooney etc.

some will be excited about the project, a new era under a new manager trying to create a young exciting team.

and others will avoid what they think might be a sinking ship.

Are you seriously pleading dumb about what the spine of United's title-winning team was now, £#%&!ing hell. And Carrick was rushed back in because Jones got injured. Rooney was also rushed back in but broke down.

We hadn't lost 7 by January when you fixed your view on the season though, we'd probably lost none, and you've not highlighted anything positive at all, let alone undefeated runs and certainly not winning runs and champions league excellence

United's domestic rivals have stepped up to take advantage of the getting-to-know-you process at the top club in england after its first managerial change in a generation. too many of United's players have been sulking but the whole thing is beginning to settle down.

if you are going to attach any great significance to the domestic cup #@&%!-ups then you need to balance that with praise for the excellent CL group stage performance. If you do it would be retrospectively of course, because you didn't at the time. Unless you think the FAC and LC are more significant now as well

Brilliant. At that rate we only lose a minimum of 10 league games per season. But notice how you talk about form in all competitions when it suits you, then isolate league form when it suits you. And it's never about performances; how we're playing. It's always clinging to the results, which is even more desperate considering we've failed in all the domestic competitions already.

The Mata signing may be a turning point; it may not. United could get Rooney and van Persie fit and go on a great run of form that sees us secure top four or more and do well in Europe. Let's hope so, but I can't see the point in pretending it hasn't been woeful so far.
