So you could say Jose is actually improving a player?

Rashford needs to think about the game more... He doesn't strike me as the brightest footballer but that can come with age / experience... which is what Jose said about Jesse (in a roundabout way)

So you're saying a player has improved since his first season having been given time to develop and gain experience, and is actually performing playing with better players, in his natural position..? We should try it with one or two others, you never know, it might catch on..

In a futile attempt to move away from the tedious Lou v Mou debate, happy to see Lingard proving many - me included - wrong. Really enjoying watching him play at the moment. Always looking for the ball, which imo was missing from is game previously. Used to annoy me how frightened of the ball he was.

One of the first names on the team sheet at the moment
Long may it continue

When he was first settling into first team football at United, the fact he wasn't scared of the ball and always looking to be involved was one of the things that stood out, alongside his movement tbh. Tended to be that he didn't quite react quick enough with the ball, was caught on it and easily knocked off it, and his decision making left a bit to be desired, that were the issues, all things that can be solved with experience... and here we are.

He's always been that type of player, he never looked afraid. It's amazing how our supposedly shit forwards, look good when we stop playing hoof ball, and actually give them the ball, shocking development, what managerial wizardry. Of course, the moment Mourinho reverts to shithouse type, they'll be shit again, and entirely to blame.

and yet the Dutch master in his first league game in charge of us had Lingard playing as a wing back at home to Swansea.. Total football...

Yeah, and he also said he used him wide sometimes as he needed his pace, but his best position was behind the striker, and he played him there too.

Lovely to see people still hating that Jesse is LvG’s baby. Along with Rashers and Martial. The lads who will truly take United forward, unlike Lukaku and Mkhitaryan.

Some managers just see the future

agree
meant afraid when he had the ball. Never looked confident in terms of knowing what to do with it. So he would make bad decisions. Offload too fast. Pass backwards. Now his confidence has come and like you say has more experience, so is so much more useful in that position. What's most impressed me is his willingness to hold the ball and run at players.
