Footballers aren't key workers.

They haven't been 'allowed' to continue. Majority of them aren't working.

What do you mean? They are allowed as they can’t work from home. Most sites still open and operating. Key workers isn’t mentioned in the stay at home guidelines, it’s simply if you can’t possibly work from home then you can still go to work.

A lot of large construction jobs are on tight schedules and there are massive fines to pay if they aren't finished by a certain date. Would be a legal nightmare I'd imagine if they all shut down.

Guardian are reporting that 240 people needed to be tested for each match behind closed doors, so for each match you'd need ~4000 tests. We test 18,000 people per day....

They'd need re-testing for each round of matches.

Can't see it happening.

Yep. Not just 22 players. Coach companies, training ground canteen staff, physios... Recipe for super spreading...

FFS, the authorities should just award Liverpool the title if they're that desperate to see them get it

I think the problem is that Sky and BT will require a rebate if the season isn’t completed. The rebate is likely to be substantial and the PL and EFL will just not have that money.

Therefore, completing the season is a necessity rather than an option.

wasn't there a thing were they award Liverpool the title then give sky much more games next season?

that seems the sensible thing.

we could have a few friendlies before next season but nothing serious.

All these meetings.... league 'committed' to finish. Ah, good for them. I'm sure that commitment will go well in overturning a global pandemic. Your 'commitment' is just words.

They have to have their meetings and pretend they are finding solutions, because they have no power whatsoever.

It's actually quite satisfying. So much money. So much supposed power and now it's all ground to a halt, shown up as a mere distraction and there's really nothing they can do.
