Maybe if he were taking over from Fergie, leaving a settled confident successful team/squad with leaders in the team...maybe. United as we currently are? Suicide, utter suicide.
It could work, of course it could; anything could happen. Giggs might turn out to be the greatest manager ever, but it could just as easily be a holocaust. There is simply no way to know, no way to judge. It's ludicrous to even consider it. Also, I don't think Woodward would risk it. It's his head on the line too; and whereas he could justify the decision to hire Guardiola or Ancelotti even if it went wrong, how could he justify gambling on an unproven, inexperienced man for the biggest job in the world? Where is the benefit to him to take that risk? I don't see it, not after Moyes. Also, passing him over because of his inexperience is potentially far less damaging to him and the club to have to sack a legitimate legend after a year because he's nausing it up horribly. If he's going to be a top manager, let him prove it elsewhere. Fergie had to, as did Wenger, Mourinho, Van Gaal and most other top bosses. Nothing wrong with that. |
