The likes of Matuidi/Herrera are more attacking minded players though. We've seen countless times Herrera in a midfield two get caught way out of position since his first instinct is to press high without the ball/run towards goal. They aren't smart defensively like Kante is. And neither are technically special to provide the creativity.

Mourinho likes a solid defensive minded player in his two so from the current lot that fits Schneiderlin. Alongside him I'd rather see a gifted player who can run the game from midfield than another headless chicken.
