He has a win percentage of 84% at Porto. Maureen's was 70%. His form does look tip top.

I hope he has the character to turn Chelsea down in favour of trying to emulate Mourinho in the CL and waiting for a proper club to come in for him.

He's already told Porto he's leaving, apparently. All Porto have done is release a statement to the markets confirming that the release clause is yet to be officially activated.

Characterless then?

Is Roberto Martinez the last bastion of Character in football management? (Fergie aside, obv.)

Characterless might be a bit harsh. He worked at Chelsea with Mourino for three years, so he has genuine connections to the club and the city. I'm a bit surprised he's in such a rush to leave Porto, especially as the Chelsea job tends to become available every year or two anyway, but perhaps he felt they may not come back for him again.

Shame for Porto, who really did seem keen on keeping this side together. Villas Boas will surely explore the possibility of taking the likes of Hulk, Fernando with him.

Maybe harsh, but still, he's got a cracking side, something new to aim for and time on his side. He should've stayed where he is for next season at least imo.

So, confirmed this morning - 3 year deal which seems short? Not so when you consider the supposed compensation paid out by Roman so far for his sacked managers is £62m

Quite intrigued as to how Chelsea & their top, top pro's like JT & Lamps will handle this young whippersnapper telling them what to do. He's the same £#%&!ing age as Lampard for a kick off.

Unless he ships a fair few out, I see trouble ahead. He's more than likely got a blank cheque book, so why not £#%&! off those helmets & get in some younger more hungry players.

He'll win the league and cup first year, CL Semis or Final or so and Roman will give him a 10 year deal, it'll all fall apart and he'll have to pay more to get rid of him than he did to get him

Are Chelsea solely responsible for Porto's finances btw? Mourinho, Ferreira, Carvalho, AVB all at ridiculous fees, and I don't doubt they'll be going back for Falcao, Fernando, Moutinho, Hulk et al...

Porto are the Lyon of the 201's?? (what do you call it? the 10's? )

Even though AVB was there for 3(?) years with Mourinho, he does only have 18 months experience on his own... & Abramovich is a £#%&!ing prat, the guy is inheriting an aging squad with some huge egos, who'll go first? Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Anelka ? If he riles them & they revolt... does he just purge the £#%&!ing lot of them & buy more or does he phase them out? He doesn't have the experience to know everything - it's not like he's Pep taking over at Barca having known the club inside out & progressing from youth team to first team & knowing the players & system, he will have to actively learn everything about the big decisions & the media intrusion here - he's NOT a mini-Mourinho, I don't believe he actively courts the controversy & takes the flack, the players are going to be exposed if they don't perform.

At least it's a bit unpredictable, if Hiddink had of taken over you get the impression it would have been like Ancelotti's first year, make Chelsea play like they want to & win a lot. AVB seems to actually like attacking football, whether he'll be afforded the opportunity to create something who knows. Hopefully not tbh, but I suspect he'll do very well given his pedigree.
