update

Sir Matt Busby Way will permanently close to through traffic on Monday 6th June 2011 (except for pedestrians and cyclists). A paved pedestrianised area will be constructed during the closed season outside the front of the Old Trafford stadium. the alternative route for vehicles will be via the White City junction.

If the ghost of the bloke who used to carry the 'end is nigh' placard thing in the 70's came back (I assume he's dead), he'd be as confused as £#%&!. First they change the name then they pedestrianise it. It's all wrong.

...we could have Tommy Doc serving behind the counter of the megastore.

Nearly as surreal as me typing this in 30 degrees heat in Limassol

id love to go back to the Tommy Doc era for one day.....walk around the stadium...floodlight towers....singing myself hoarse an hour before kick-off.....pie shop opposite the railway bridge.....cycling home after the game, bike clips holding back huge flares .....scarf tied into a huge knot around my neck...and another two around my wrists......

just one more day

Strangely I did once get served by The Doc in the old Souvenir Shop, I was really chuffed, £#%&! knows why but he was there behind the counter. I bought a rather classy pencil drawing print of the first team's faces.

I'm with you on the scarfs thing, though my post match grub was from the hot-dog van as you walked towards Trafford Wharf
