tend to agree.

I've worn a poppy for years, long before all the hoopla surrounded it. It's become an extension of the England flags on cars, Children in Need, Movember and over the top Christmas celebrations mindset and is really £#%&!ing me off.

Furthermore, I really can't be doing with this insecure and constant need to crave universal acceptance from everyone. The lad has a valid reason not to wear one.. fine. I choose to wear one fine..

Now kindly £#%&! off and stop telling us what to do.

... and a direct descendant of Brian Boru.

Celts weren't driven out, they were assimilated. The natives carried on living where they always had, the Angles and so on simply became feudal lords.

They weren't 'made to' speak anything (unless you count that minor issue of translating the Bible). There's never been a forced language policy in the British Isles like the French had Vergonha - most well known is probably the Welsh Not and that was small scale (and Welsh-led). The phenomenon of nationalism is from the 19th century, I do wish people would stop applying it to earlier times.

I think the difference is the social pressure to conform by wearing one - the day some @#%&! tells me I should be wearing a red nose I'm really going to lose it.

Wtf ???

Ok let's try again

Imagine the good people of Middleton were holding a peaceful demonstration to protest against, for example, the increase in council tax levied by Rochdale council

The army charges in and murders 12 marchers, including children

Would you, in future years, wear an emblem that celebrates that army ?

He has every right not to wear one. He shouldn't have to explain himself.

Just as I have the right to not join in with st patrick's day or 'de craic'.
