Gerrard and Fabregas are the 2 surprising ones. Essien should definitely be in there, after Drogab he has been their best player quite easily, and even Lampard with his 21 goals from midfield has had a better season than Gerrard or Fabregas.

Drogba for the main award and Ronaldo for the young players one is suspiciously likely. Ronaldo deserves the main one, but a carve up would not surprise.

Ronaldo should no longer be considered for the young players award, nor Rooney, they have been regulars for 3/4 years at big clubs.

Young players award should really be for breakthrough players.

Default five nominations

in order:

1. ronnie
2. giggs
3. berbatov
4. essien
5. david james

giggs has been superb this year. it should also count for something that the more important the match, the better he plays. for years now, he has been the one player who has consistently excelled in europe for us, for example.

Disgrace that Gerrard and Fabregas are picked ahead of Essien.

It is very £#%&!ing odd Gerrard and Cesc are there, Essien should of been up.

As for anybody else to fill the last spot?.....there isnt one, so ofcourse they have to throw in crinkle head.

Wayne n Ronny both up for the young player award, apart from them two, no outstanding young player either....has anybody ever won both young and pfa player of the year and football writers awards ?

Berbatov, Essien, Arteta and Rio would all make worthy nominees. Fabregas has been good to be fair, but Gerrard has had a quiet year.

Lets not forget that the people who decide this are proffesional footballers. I can't picture Essien being liked by his fellow pro's because of the type of player he is. I don't reckon many people like Drogba either.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Giggs win it to be honest, not saying he'd deserve it or not but it's a logical outcome.

sol campbell is a good shout, gone a bit quiet now but people forget he was the main reason pompy had about 10 clean sheets in a row or something.

Would be like the year Sheringham won it, sort of a lifetime achievement thing. Scholes might also get it on the same basis.

Fabregas in ahead of Essien is truly absurd.

Yep, complete £#%&!ing joke. Gerrard and Fabregas have both had relatively poor seasons yet both get nominated. Bizarre.

Essien should be in it, but doubt a single Liverpool player would vote for him for a start. Berbatov hasn't really done much - Spurs aren't even in the top 7 ffs and they aren't exactly shy about getting forward. The best goalkeeper has been Ben Foster by quite a distance. Carvalho is worth a shout along with Ferdinand.

With 3 United players in the 6 the vote could be split like it was in 99, allowing Ginola to win - the Writers agreed as well, the clueless £#%&!ers.

Ronaldo will win it though, no doubt

Think Scholes may win it because of the time when voting took place. I can remember before we played the Arse, Henry was saying that he had voted for Scholes.
Also with Mclaren begging Scholes to come back and play for England, He is bound to have asked the likes of Terry, Gerrard, Lampard, Owen etc if they would want him back - so think he would get a few votes off them rather than Ronaldo, due to English loyalty.
Again, like people have said, it could be like a life time achievement award after being out of the game for a while last season.
