Default Does anyone still not rate Michael Carrick?

And the price tag now seems less extortionate, too.

I still think we'd have been better off with Gattuso.

As recently as the Roma away game, when he had to hold the midfield together after Scholes got himself sent off, there were those who still seemed oblvious to what a class player he is.

I don't think he should have to score a couple of goals to convince the mongs what a quality player he is, but I suppose that's life.

I have to admit I didn't realise how good Carrick was before these last few months - Christmas time onwards he's got better - the last 8 or 9 matches for us he's been outstanding.
To be fair, I think over the summer our transfer targets were a midfield replacement for Keane & a top drawer striker - (I still see that as being our weak link in the squad) so I suppose Carrick's signing did raise a few eyebrows. Particuarly as nobody else was brought in.
The pressure & focus very much on him alone.
Carrick has proved himself to the fans..that's what players have to do.

Of course it's great to have 'Overseas' talent at our great Club - our best player this year has been Portuguese - but I do love our commitment to UK players. I think it's so important to the Club. I'd never want us to go down the Arsenal/Chelsea route.
It is special to see the likes of Carrick, Wayne, Smith, Scholesy, Giggsy, Wes, Rio, O'Shea etc.. forming the core of our side.
Even the lad I give so much stick to - Darren Fletcher - was brilliant last night.

Nice to see Carrick weighing in with a few goals of late. The only criticism I've had of the lad is that he isn't 'positive' enough...that he doesn't take the game forward quickly enough.
He's certainly started doing that now. He seems a grounded lad as well.
Great stuff.

always liked him at spurs. wasn't happy we signed him at that price though, and his early form wasn't good.

the 1 worry i've had is that, whilst playing alongside scholes is all well and good, if it's him + a plodder like hargreaves as the first choice midfield, has he got it in him to be the chief creative threat.

his recent performances without scholeseh have gone someway to reducing those fears.

Yeah , Gattuso, Zakora etc.I tipped them too.

BUT, i tipped Carrick to become a fantastic buy for us.And I was right and now I'm being very smug.

He's one of those unsung heroes. Because he's not a flash @#%&!, he doesn't get noticed. A bit like Denis Irwin.

Incidentally, he's probably the best passer of the ball in the prem now. Well, 2nd best. Just behind Scholes.
