Respectable goals to games ratio for a young player who had limited first team opportunities and has since proved himself to be a half decent (at the very least) footballer.

i remember seeing a poll in some football magazine a few years back, where they asked fans of every league team to pick their worst ever player. i think alan foggon won the united vote. he was before my time so i can't comment on how accurate this is.

They were a bleak few years weren't they?!..Jesus Christ -

Bellion
Smith
Miller
Kleberson
Heinze
Roy Carrol
D'Jemba D'jemba......

Not to mention Keano in meltdown decline, Ruud in sulk mode, Rio's drug scandal, Rio & Wes' dreadlock phase, Fletcher's Bambi on Ice years, rotating keepers, 'World Class' youngsters like Dave Jones & Kieran Richardson..etc

Thank god for Wazza & Ronaldo during that period aye?

I suppose at least that lot didn't lose 1-4 at home against the vermin mind

The innocence that was to cost him so dear is perhaps best summed up by his first coach at Nantes, Guy Hillion. He said: "He was touching. He used to get ecstatic about everything. One of the first things he said when he arrived was: 'I don't understand this. In France, I see money coming out of the walls'. He was talking about cash machines."
