Berbatov was excellent tonight.

He's still the marmite of football. You love him or hate him.

I agree - but there's alot of blind tossers that differ,

Berbs = pure class

honestly speaking is this adverse view on berbatov just a few people or is it argued amongst united fans everywhere.

only wiganste seems to understand this.

berbatov is very similar to veron in this way. some games you would have a 50/50 split into who thought he was good and who thought he was not good at all.

btw I'm not slating the berbs in this thread far from it, I just wonder why he's deployed in such deep role when we would surely benefeit from rooney in that space with berbs pushed through the middle high end of the pitch.

It's obviously a direct ploy from Fergie, he obviously wants to give us more control in the centre of the pitch.

Berbatov has actually sacrificed a lot of his natural game but nobody seems to be giving him credit for that.

It seems to me that we are replicating a lot of 'Spaletti's Roma model' with Berbie as the fulcrum of the team (like Totti) with the midfield running beyond him.

That Roma model didn't actually play with an out and out forward, it was just based on possession in the final third and intelligent movement from the breaking players - it'll hopefully get the best out of Ronaldo and Rooney who have the pace, power, fitness, skill and intelligence to utilise the large openings

It set up similar to a 4-1-4-1 with De-Rossi holding, 4 midfielders and a very deep Totti.

Carrick

Ronaldo - Hargreaves/Fletcher - Anderson - Rooney

Berbatov

Totti would often just make things tick from the half way line

Thought he was good tonight, especially first half, class when he roasted the defender and put it on Rooney's head.

That's the only aspect of his game that annoys me. Probably tries to turn his defender to often as well, when laying it off would be better. Other then that, he's £#%&!ing brilliant to watch.

I thought he held the ball up superbly tonight, beat his man/men with ease and played 3 or 4 killer balls that deserved goals. What more can you ask for?

I'd like to see him have a crack at goal now and then. He had a belting shot on him at Spurs.

He looked quicker and sharper tonight too, very reminiscent of his Spurs days. I've watched him very closely for a few years now and there is still an awful lot more to come from him but the signs are definitely there.

I'm convinced with a full pre-season in our regime he'll be top, top player.

It seems a lot of United followers have wrote him off already though
