McLaren won a trophy and reached a European final at Middlesbrough. He was a disaster at Newcastle, granted, but overall he shades Moyes, even if only on account of him having actually won something.

He did the job that was required of him and at the time he was never going to properly break the "top four". A City fan criticizing any manager for being mediocre is quite laughable though. All the money in the world and Everton are still a bigger club.

IIRC he had a negative net spend over his time there. Roberto "tactically progressive" Martinez had the best Everton team in 30 years and finished in the bottom half consecutively.

There are levels to this shit - Pulis will keep you up, Moyes takes you to mid table, Wenger gets you 4th and Fergie wins the league.

Would be a terrible appointment for both parties. Sunderland, neither the board or the fans, have a great deal of patience with managers. He wouldn't last a season and he really can't afford another sacking.
