24 hour media is generally bad most of the time - this is every bit as true regarding its "news" coverage.

Aye.

In the late 90's/Early 00's I reckon I would have watched 90% of football that was on telly but now days it pretty much just United. Watched about 5 Juve matches at my mate's early on in the season. I've not bothered to watch any of the cup finals properly in years too.

The main issues for me. Particularly the Lad Bible middle class bantz @#%&!s and #@&%!s who just quote £#%&!ing pass completion percentages and high intensity sprints as a cover for not actually knowing what they're £#%&!ing talking about.

Not to mention I pretty much despise footballers as a group. You get the feeling the majority of them would prefer it if there were no fans and wouldn't piss on the average man if they were on fire.

Something's changed in recent years. It's just not as exciting anymore. You watch any random game nowadays and the chances are it will be a £#%&!ing chess match between two average sides scared to lose more than they're prepared to win.

There's a lot fewer top players around now IMO, too; certainly memorable individuals who entertain. Most of the top players nowadays are £#%&!ing robotic in comparison.
Serie A in the 90s was all about chess matches.

Some special players - Batistuta, Baggio, Chiesa, Crespo, Vieri, Ronaldo, Del Piero, Inzaghi, Vialli, Ravanelli, Signori...but the games were very tactical and defensive. There's less special players overall I agree, but still quite a few around, although obviously they all gravitate to Barca and Real Madrid.

Certainly right now La Liga is very open at times with plenty of freedom of expression on the pitch, and a good number of goals. Same goes for the Bundesliga.

La Liga and the Bundesliga are of horrendous quality outside the top few sides

Goals don't equal quality. Can see plenty of goals in league 1 if that's what you're after

I watch a La Liga game every week and I £#%&!ing hate it. Though to be fair I'm watching the worst team in it.

For me, it's a combination of life becoming chockablock with more urgent things and yes, football becoming a load of %@#$&!s.

Don't take this the wrong way, but also the make up of the teams changes things. Has the internationalisation of our teams helped? I remember the excitement of Kanchelskis coming - I bought a 'Russians Are Coming' tshirt from Middleton arndale. Now? Rashford coming through is the same - a buzz, a Manchester lad coming through but it's the exception rather than the rule nowadays.

The over analysis doesn't help - and some of the fun seems to have gone from the matches.

Perhaps it's an age thing - I only have 2 people in real life nowadays with whom I physically talk about united with - so it's naturally not the same as being 18 going to the games.

Still nothing like it of course - but yes, it does seem to be shitter in many ways.

Flip side of course is seeing Leicester do well (I've no axe to grind with them) and the possibility of Pep leading City into the Europa League is a thing of joy. Let's hope city don't let us down.

Yes, I barely watch any football anymore, including United, and I don't miss it one bit. I actually resent the fact that I've wasted so much time over the years caring about a £#%&!ing game.

Do you watch other sports, have you gone native? I'd say most of your mates there not really caring is probably something to do with it, like here you get in conversations with randomers all the time, like the librarian today who commented on my scarf because he's a Leeds fan, not a day to day thing in Melbourne to the same extent

La Liga certainly isn't. Top to bottom it's probably the strongest league in the world .

Anyway my point is neither league is filled with chess-matches.

Well I don't agree, about the strength of La Liga anyway.

Both leagues are pretty open though, definitely. But what does that really count for? As I say, League 1 is very open too

I partly agree, but I do think winning the league every year with great players and great games has its part to play

I watch far less football the older I get because, well, I'm busy. I work late and don't always have time to watch us and often the time I do have, I don't want to spend getting frustrated, pissed off or bored.

I still get the same gurn from the big goals and nervous before big game, but the days are gone when it would dominate my week or weekend.

I'm far more animated on here than I am in real life. I enjoy it when we win and move on as quickly as possible when we lose. TV off, go do something else. Why people watch us lose and then go and watch Liverpool straight afterwards or something, I've no idea.

I find it rather sad when I see guys in their 30s, 40s Nd 50s saying how a game has 'ruined their week'. Really? Your week has nothing in it more important than that??

Premier League is stronger than La Liga top to bottom imo.

Top 3 in Spain are obviously levels above anything we have right now, but past that I would take most sides in the Prem to beat their equivalent in Spain.

I do think some of it has to do with the fact that United have been on a downward slump since 2013 tbh, even if a lot of us don't like to admit it. All those other annoying things about football seem to fade into the background when your team are doing well and there's genuine excitement every week. You lose all enthusiasm for following football when your own team are doing a bit shit. You should hear my Spurs mates now, i've never heard them talk about football so much The last 2-3 weeks all they £#%&!ing talk about is their upcoming fixtures and "what if Leicester drop points" etc etc. I just tune out. Every Leicester home game now is like a public holiday in the city from what I can gather, it's literally all any @#%&! talks about. So from their perspective I should imagine football has never been better.

On the flip side United are in an FA Cup quarter final tomorrow and while we all have differing opinions on the result, i'm sure a lot of us on here aren't really looking forward to it that much.

What a £#%&!ing sad state of affairs that is.

It's an age thing. I've had the same feelings about football for a decade or more and it's not just football. Music is shit as well.

This is all true, but goalscoring averages haven't really changed much across most leagues in the last decade since these things became popular. Partly it's because more teams try to play out of the back more often, which means that a) they £#%&! up sometimes, and b) they're playing converted midfielders back there, who aren't so great at actual defending. There are more dead ball specialists around now, and pretty much every rule change of the last two decades has been designed to make it easier to score goals.

Really think mostly this is an age/memory thing. Lots of mid-30s people have super fond memories of Italia 90 for a lot of reasons, most of them having little to do with the football. That was a mostly dreadful World Cup, but it's easy to forget that when you just remember being young and carefree etc.
