It wasn't just that they were mates with Gollum - many had emotionally invested a great deal in the idea a "home grown" manager could still cut it at a truly big club. They are unhappy and resentful that the past year has exposed the scale of their delusions on that score.

Tbf Souness was loving LvG after the Chelsea game. I think he's generally fair. Pretty clueless, but fair.

against arsenal united played for 10 minutes in the 1st half, the rest of it was a rear guard action where we barely strung 2 passes together and they mostly out-played us. the 2nd half was a lot better but mostly counter attack against a naive opponent. i doubt souness would have said much different to this.
