I think that with all fit and playing at the best they have shown for Utd, that a midfield of Carrick sitting dictating play, and Hargreaves and Anderson going box to box, could have a very nice balance to it. However Fletcher has made himself very difficult to drop.

4-3-3 suits the midfielders we have IMO, but not really the forwards. Berbatov could not play in the wider attacking role and if asked to play as the target man may end up dropping too deep, and would not really be a threat in behind. If we play Rooney as the central striker then the wide forward roles may be a problem. Ronaldo was perfect for that system.

Rafael may be fanciful in the first formation because I believe that Hargreaves mobility would provide enough cover, capable of filling in at RB as well. A fit Hargreaves might be the best right back in the squad.

Hargreaves and Fletcher in a 2 would give us a lot of energy and graft, might lack the passing ability of Scholes and Carrick but if we were to go 4-4-2 with wingers playing wide then it is one of the few combinations I could see Fergie trusting to be able to cope in a big match.
