Fergie was way ahead of Pep when he put Rafael in there against Blackburn. Didn't quite have the same effect though unfortunately.

You'd think someone would've thought of that by now, wouldn't you?

Like, stop Xavi etc..

Fergie tried that by sticking Rooney on Busquets in the Champion's League final, whilst Hernandez was tasked with pressing the centre-backs into playing the long ball, or forcing them to give it to Busquets who would in turn be under pressure from Rooney.

It didn't work at all, as Busquets' vision and ability to pass the ball first time is so good. Rooney didn't get a sniff, as before he even got close to Busquets, the Barca player had already popped it off to one of the players ahead of him, and Barca launched another attack. This repeated itself over 90 painful minutes.

The same thing is happening at Bayern with Lahm. Guardiola has said that Lahm is the most intelligent player he's ever worked with, and it's down to that intelligence, vision, first-touch and positional sense that it's so successful. If it was as easy as 'sticking a man on him' I'm sure someone would have figured it out by now, you tactical neanderthal.

Learnt from the best tbf:

Quote:
"In his first week at the club, Cruyff turned up unannounced at the 'Mini' stadium, a venue just down the road from Camp Nou used by the youth and B teams. Just before half-time he wandered into the dug-out and asked Charly Rexach, the youth team manager at the time, the name of the young lad playing on the right side of midfield. 'Guardiola – good lad' came the reply. Cruyff ignored the comment and told Rexach to move him into the middle for the second half, to play as pivot. It was a difficult position to adapt to and one not used by many teams in Spain at the time. 'Pep' Guardiola adjusted immediately, as Cruyff had suspected he would, and when he moved up into the first-team in 1990 he became the pivot of the Dream Team."
Should make Big Johan a Director at United tbh.

Woodward would probably end up with Jordi instead.
