I reckon 12-18 months ago they’d have triggered the year, paid him whatever and given themselves longer to negotiate. The fact they haven’t points to them maybe getting smarter? or maybe not really being that arsed about keeping him.

The year on Fred spanks of getting a fee in the summer. Shaw has the year and a new deal. Dalot has the year and is talking new deal. Not taking De Gea’s year stands out imo.

To listen to some on here you’d think he’s turning down strikers and keepers aots. Never throws a player under the bus and at least publicly, talks the player up. To sell him, hopefully.
