Yep, he was in a coma afterwards and nearly died. Unsurprisingly, though he returned to football his career never really recovered.

Shearer without a doubt.

If ever there was a player that achieved the best stats under such low pressure it is him.

Utd would have crippled him.

Clever not to step up but still weak imo.

Absolute balls.

He wouldve been perfect for us. Although we didn't do too badly without him...

Bollix! Shearer is one of the best strikers I've ever seen.

He has done it plenty of time under pressure. 1993/94, when Blackburn were chasing us, he took us and Bruce to the cleaners
Euro 96
World Cup 98 etc etc

£#%&!ing hell, some people....

I actually respect him a lot for signing for the team he supported all his life. You don't see it happen often, if ever, in football

Bit a low blow. Was off the back of his worst season he ever had.

Gutted for him etc but still doesn't really go down as his tourney does it? Scored the same amount of goals as Shaun Bartlett.

If that's a career highlight...

Well, oddly enough I didn't say it was a career highlight...

It was said he didn't do it when the pressure was on, I pointed out he did at the WC in 1998, as evident by his two penalties in the knockout phase against Argentina. One in the shootout and the other to give England the lead.

Baggio, Owen, Zidane scored 2 goals too...Shaun Bartlett really was the star that got away.

Merse scored a penno in that game iirc.

So it was just the one goal from open play in the tourney for Super Al? Proved himself etc.
