Maybe City wanted Rice on along and just bought Phillips to be the extra chip in this year's negotiation.

Remember that funny business with Kenny Sansom and Clive Allen.

West Ham were heavily linked tbf and City then barely played him.

The long game...

Too complicated for the thickos at our club...

must be nice to be able to stump up 50 million quid for a player to Leeds and then decide within 12 months you don't really want him, then just £#%&! him off for a 100 million upgrade.

If we'd have bought Philips for that money he'd still be here in 8 years.

That’s the key difference. It’s not what they spend, but how they spend. Entirely without consequences.

He gets a signing on bonus, a leaving bonus and a year of playing snooker. Also keep Gundogan for another year instead of flogging him so he leaves on a 'free' instead of say £30m. Rice costs £65m + Phillips but in reality he is costing
more like £150m

They’ll take the Elanga offer as an insult.

I'm going to stick my neck on the line and predict that that trade will not happen.

Not a single top six side will want him and he knows that. None of the ‘big six’ will and neither will Brighton. West Ham are absolutely his level and they’re in Europe.

This. West Ham or Villa are his only hope of not being at Everton.

I don't think he does mate.

He'll be wanting a club who will pay him comparable wages to what he's getting at United and won't be languishing at the bottom 3rd of the table. Villa, Spurs, someone like that.
