Zola - already in his 30s when he moved.
Di Canio - did well in England but was never a top Italian player. Never appeared for national side.
Ravanelli - stayed for a season.
Vialli- 32 when he joined.

Those are the ones who come to mind.

If we like the player, why are we so late to make a move though?

We’re not

It’s just the usual story of clubs and agents using our name

Shit, forgot about Andrea Silenzi. The very first Italian.

Forgot about Di Matteo as well, who was actually a decent player.

There were a few over here during the mid to late 90s, not many of them were great mind.

Benito Carbone
Stefano Eranio
Francesco Baiano
Gianluca Festa
Marco Materazzi
Nicola Berti
Marco Branca
Pierluigi Casiraghi
Atillio Lombardo
Michele Padovano
Alessandro Pistone

A proper collection of misfits or players past their best. Great times.

Tonali's probably the best young holding midfielder in Europe, we should be all over either him or Luis at Benfica, he's the sort of player we're crying out for rather than letting Matic play 3 decent games then get tired and start giving away free kicks all over the shop.

you cannot burnish your imaginary euro leagues guru cup with slights to matic. no one can play midfield on his own. no one.

Di Matteo was Swiss, but Italian qualified. Not sure if he'd played for Italy before moving to England either.

Materazzi also played briefly in the Premier League before he was established... he turned out to be quite decent. Well, in the qualitative sense, not the moral one

(edit, I missed that he was on the list)

One of the most bizarre things i've ever seen was watching Fabrizio Ravanelli playing for Middlesbrough.

Wins the European Cup with Juventus and then the next season he's playing up front in the BT Cellnet stadium

I'd forgotten about him tbh.

Middlesbrough put together a decent side at one point...vague recollections of them beating us at OT.

Yeah they were our bogey team for a while.

I remember one particularly shitty night at OT where they beat us and Juninho, all £#%&!ing 4ft of him, scored 2 headers.

Might have been a bit earlier than that when they rattled one in off the underside of the bar.

He started playing for Italy a couple of seasons before his move to England.

Think Materazzi had a big disciplinary issue in English football. Didn't improve much throughout his career tbf Though became a far better player than he was here.

I remember this game. Absolutely pissed it down all day.

Juniho, Emerson and Ravanelli surrounded by absolute dross

Here's the one i was on about.

Boro always seem to reserve their season best performances for us.

£#%&!ing Boksic

Christ i forgot about him.

I think the nadir was that 4-1 trouncing they gave us at their place though in 2005.

The absolute state of our team line up. Richardson, Smith, Silvestre, Park. Urgh.
