As it proved with RvN you need a highly functioning, quick in the transition from attack to defence team to bring the best out of a "target man" such as Lukaku. He's never going to drop deep and offer that option, that's not his game and i dont think it should be, his strengths are mainly in and around the box, but we don't play to it because we a) probably don't have the players or b) Mourinho didn't wanna go back and forth with Madrid for Morata and knew we couldn't go into the new season with no reognised no.9 so took the punt that an extremely ambitious and hungry Lukaku could make the step.

We're shit, but i think some of the angers needs to be directed towards the right people. Blaming Lukaku for not playing like Torres is sorta like saying why doesn't Young play like David Beckham - different players.
I'm not angry at Lukaku, I'm pointing out (as you are) that he's not the type of player this team needs. We need someone who can drop deep and make something happen.

Whether we've played to his strenghts or not, Lukaku has been awful today.

Poor result. This Chelsea team have been shit for weeks and we didn't trouble them.

I know it's only November but they may as well give City the trophy now.

Absolute shit and grimly predictable.

After eigtueen months and God knows how much spent, our best weapon is still Marouane Fellaini.

Completely and utterly predictable result and performance.

Awful, didn't take advantage of a slow start from Chelsea and then a woeful second half with a shambolic response to going behind.

Mourinho is not blameless, how shit our attacking football is in terms of structure and the reliance on hoof ball tactics to non footballers like Lukaku and Fellaini is on him.

beyond caring now....... Have now gotten use to the fact that we are miles and years away from properly competing at the highest level again, our main strength seems to try and strangle the life out of a game and hope for a lucky break....all that money wasted to be a kick and rush team.......
