Herein lies the issue. The likes of Mata, Bailly, Lingard get a run out against the mighty Luton and low and behold look good. No wonder we can't shift the @#%&!s.

I think he was pretty decent for us back then, yeah. Never one of the Mata haterz.

Mata had a great spell at Chelsea, Oscar replacing him is classic Mou. He had good spells for us but he never reached the same level he did at Chelsea - he certainly was never “fantastic”, barring maybe one or two games. Been on a steady decline to nothingness for a few years now, still a nice guy etc. But at the top level he offers sod all now.

Unlike certain others clogging up our squad, he's still a good person to have at the club off the pitch one suspects.

Think he’s one of the root causes of the weak mentality that’s plagued us for so many years tbh. “I know we’ve just lost in embarrassing fashion to Brighton, but do you want to hug it out mate?”

He had a defined role in a coached system, back when we still had a few decent footballers in the squad.

I bet he hasn't been taught anything since Van Gaal left.

Logging onto Fred to find 64 threads bumped by Riccers, adding absolutely nothing to any of them: Priceless.

Mata is a great pro and role model. Should give him a coaching/mentoring job keeping the young lads on the level.

He probably has as much authority as a substitute teacher.

He was about as influential on that Spain team as Pepe Reina.

The bloke has been a poor signing on the whole. Extremely average player.
