As mentioned, there is no clear north or south. No history of two rival conferences.
More importantly though, would footballers really be arsed? Being an NBA All Star pick and All Star MVP means something in basketball. But football doesn't have that same obsession with stats (although some posters on here...) so there is nothing to motivate them aside from a day out. It would end up having the same status as one of those celebrity football tournaments they put up on TV. Mediocre light entertainment and kind of pointless from a sporting point of view.

NBA have scrapped the east v west theme recently and it worked quite well
Just pick two 'captains' and let them pick 22 players each from a pool voted for by the fans
Would be a better watch than the charity shield or league cup tbf.
