A better error than laziness or switching off.

The lad is no world beater, but with us crying out for an extra pair of legs to free up Matic and Pogba, he's sort of exactly what we need right now.

Over the course of this week, he's been our best player.
Yes, a pragmatic decision, but needed given Matic's struggle with the workload and the unreliability of Pogba's defensive awareness.

Fletcher needed a number of years before he stepped beyond that role as a pure water carrier.

I know Mourinho can be unforgiving of errors but I think he'll have been happy with the way the lad acquitted himself afterwards. Nothing wrong with a mistake if you react properly, and he did today.

I imagine hyping him up in the post match was to counterbalance the roasting he got in the dressing room

That goal though, rubbish ball from Valencia, Pogba worried about his hair Young, The Scottish Player both ignoring the run, just an awful goal to concede with a CB up for a ball into the box.

yep; he acquitted himself well. He is definitely talented and Mou loves him so he will get plenty of opportunities to grow into the role so it's up to him to make it his own I suppose.

Lindelof did well today. He has had a poor start to his United career but he definitely has some redeeming features as a player. He often seems slow from a standing start which is why he finds himself out of position a lot and is regularly chasing down his man. Ferdinand had that incredible instinct where he was always 2 steps ahead of the forward he was marking but Lindelof needs to work on that. Mou should just keep playing him now; you can't improve if you don't get a run of games.

Lindelof is slowly showing signs of why Mou wanted him. I find it easy to overlook him because he seems to lack any true exceptional elements to his game. Finding the right partner for him will be important. Not sure about Bailly and Lindelof as a pair moving forward, neither is great in the air but today with Utd basically leaving Young open for Chelsea to attack he had to cut out a lot of crosses and get over to help out.

Still see him as more of a squad option but considering where he was 3 months ago it is acceptable progress.

Glad somebody else noticed

McTom really helping both Pog and esp Matic.

There’s the makings of a decent side in there if the dozy £#%&!ers will take this as a springboard and kick on.

A few of these lads only just half way through their first season, some only a handful of games in a “struggling “ team. For me, a pair of proper full backs the priority.

Pre-assist for the Lingard goal

Played well. Functional, but that was the job he was being asked to do. Good temperament. Thought he came across well in the post game.

Not a player you are going to build a team around but happy to see a young player coming through regardless. Would still like to see if there is more and/or better talent in the youths that can be brought through.

Hes been lucky if Felliani was fit he would be nowhere near the team. I cant see Felliani usurping him at the moment. Which has got to be a good thing

In the same way that if we hadn't had injured strikers Rashford wouldn't have been near the team ....

Before youth players can take the opportunity, the need that opportunity in the first place. Most of the time, particularly in a successful side (which we are despite the nay-sayers) that comes through injuries to senior players. He's steppd up so far, and regardless of Fellainis recovery although mctommers might not play every game until the end of the season, you'd expect him to be in a good few.

Yep, also Rashford scored twice and that cemented a place in the team. Getting off to a good start does wonders.
Harry Kane was hardly mentioned as an up and comer for Spurs, he scored a few in the resy's and then scored twice in the uefa cup on debut and the rest in history.

Its amazing how much 'luck' plays a part in a career

Look at Fellaini. No discernable football talent and he's played over a hundred senior games for Manchester United.

The utter bastard.
