The net spend nincomPops have been reading Rawk for too long.

"selling torres for £50m means we spent only £15m on big andy so we're about to break even now softlads"

Don't really care about net spend, fact is we wasted £50m on balsagreaves and berbashit when we should have been establishing ourselves as europes best team by far...

Wonderful, more personal abuse.

What was the list meant to show, simply how much we've spent on players? If you can't manage to process it through your Homer Simpson sized brain that it means nothing if you don't consider how much we've made on player sales at the same time then you're not worth talking to. Hope your favourite flavour of crayon tastes good.

exactly right (except the bit about Berbatov ;-})

regardless of net spend Moyes will have a big wedge of cash to help him put his mark on the squad and how he spends that will be critical, regardless of what some pretentious mongs who've swallowed andersred whole regurgitate from their dummies guide to Top Red politics

Berbatov was a mistake, facto.

Sign david villa in the summer of 2008 and the history of european football would look very different. We'd sit on 5 european cups(2009) and (2010). 3 in a row, bayern and ajax style dynasty...all ruined thanks to 2 shit buys.

The fact is Glazers brought up the net investment pledge years ago. They've nowhere near delivered on it. But don't let that get in the way of whinging about bad signings. The fact is that we have had a negative investment in the side of £24m over the last four transfer seasons. That's why we've not been establishing ourselves as Europe's best team. Arsenal have been cutting corners for years and we've not been far behind despite the vast increases in revenues that far outstrip wages. Hargreaves had a blinding first season and was a key player in our 07/08 success; didn't seem a waste of money at the time. Berbatov was the golden boot winner one season but Fergie edged him out, seemingly to play a different style of play.

As for Carroll, they were simply marking Torres up by whatever they were charged for the replacement. The problem was that they chose a shit replacement and got shafted for it. The better problem is that they got shafted for it every time they went to buy another English player.

tbf Hargreaves helped us win the CL and Ferguson didn't know how to - or refused to - set the side up for Berbatov and Rooney to play together

This is where you let yourself down, saffers. Talking as if it is a fact if we had signed a different player we'd have won two European Cups.
