The pitch looked sticky, or at least it did anytime Antonio Valencia got the ball.

Was cutting up a fair bit too. The Manchester summer has not been kind I don't think.

His touch was quite heavy on a few occasions, invited tackles. His link with Fabio`did not quite come off, but there were signs that if it was given a little time it could be productive. The revolving right back spot will stop that happening, Brown, Rafael, Fabio, Neville, O'Shea, Fletcher will all play there at some point.

Are Sky bothering to talk to Fergie, or is Scouse wankathon for the rest of the day?

"Believe me, it was purely a football decision. Maybe it is the Scotsman in me but I believe in value, even when I am spending someone else's money, and the asking price for players we were looking at just wasn't realistic."

"Rio pulled a muscle in his thigh on Friday. He'll have a scan on Monday. We won't know until then the full extent of it. Now Jonny's feeling his ankle again and Nemanja's still a bit off too. It's a tricky situation."

"Gary Neville and Rafael could make Wednesday. Rafael's close. There's no injury to Michael Carrick. You'll have to ask him why he's out."
